Some more sheet metal work, making velocity stacks.
The original air cleaners don’t allow the car to rev to 6k, and of course, that will not do. The part I made is the manifold that bolts (and currently zip ties) directly onto the carburetor, with a small hoop that allows different lengths of stack to be attached with hose clamps.
First attempts with Coke cans went alright, but lacked filter material.
So... dress socks? Nope.
Short stacks seem to work really nice, with some screen door material it works well enough for the car to rev and still keep out dirt and rocks. It’s really rev happy now! Once I get the bell mouths made somehow I think it will work even better. Jalop enough for you?

I love your can do attitude.

I like the coke cans, maybe some beer cans would look a bit more red neck. Here is my dad’s Datsun with K&N air filters sandwiched between two aluminum plates cut out with a jig saw.

might be time to steal some kids’ trumpets, and hacksaw them to length........ or trombone........
might be able to build one for it........make a form for it, out of wood, and a cone to drive into it..... something like a line flaring tool........

I see what you did there

That is excellent! Wish I had webers. That’s actually a pretty great design, maybe I’ll try that next. The screen door material is good for big stuff but I don’t want micro particles getting in there either.

Yeah the tough part is just finding the right size! I’ll think of something

This is a race car so it’s function over everything else.

any copper tubing sizes close to the right size?

Damn right.

Well it’s supposed to be a 1 1/2" carb opening, but the outer diameter of the housing I made is slightly bigger so it’s tough.

a tubing expander would “fix” that........ making the bell end would be the fun........

I think you meant to say, I can see what you did there.
Sorry, I couldn’t keep this bottled up.
I have a gallon of puns for you.
Litre.

Got an old white cotton t shirt? Should be a thinner thread and looser weave than the socks, hopefully breathe a little better.

Hahahaha! I did this too. I used some of my wife’s pantyhose. Interesting fun fact - those things really stretch.
Worked great for about 10 minutes until... under about half throttle I sucked one into the rear carb butterfly valve and it got stuck partially open.

But it worked? It flowed nice? I’m probably gonna do the same, but I’ll cut it off and put it under the hose clamp so that doesn’t happen.
